On Friday, June 27th, I received an award at ‘Arts 2014,’ for my black and white “Dunsmuir Dahlia” photo. This recognition has encouraged me to compile and produce a series of black and white floral pictures. A 14X20 print of this photograph, can be viewed at the Surrey Art Gallery.
This black and white dahlia photograph was processed to emphasize the painterly qualities of ink and wash that were seen in the original image. The dark edge of the petals defines the form of the bloom while pale washes give a sense of depth. A combination of repetition, variation, line and tone make this image appealing. The blend of surface interest and calming composition, make this an exceptionally suitable image for a home decor or public spaces.
